Step into a dingy 17th-century courtroom and get ready to face the Judge Mental! You'll be accused of some pretty nasty crimes, and it's up to the judge to decide if you're guilty or really guilty. You might even learn what's worse than murder in the judge's eyes! You’ll also learn about the real Sweaty Betty. And don't forget to observe the costumes - they're inspired by real clothing worn by 17th-century judges.
Meet the Witch Pricker, the one who hunts down witches in Scotland! You'll enter their interrogation chamber and have to prove you're not a witch or you might get burned alive! It's not fun to be a human barbecue, so you better be quick with your answers. You'll even see how low your friends and family will go to save themselves! This show took over 6 months to create, and it's one of the most popular ones at the dungeon.
Welcome to the torture chamber! If you're suspected of being a witch, you won't have a good time. The torturer is really good at their job of squeezing the truth out of you and always needs 'volunteers' to try out their new torture tools. You might even lose your tongue! But don't worry, all the torture tools are fake - they're just replicas of actual torture tools used in Edinburgh and across Europe from medieval times.
It's the 16th century, and you're lost in a cave where Sawney Bean’s family lives — a family of cannibals! They haven't eaten in a while, and guess what? You look delicious. Can you escape before they make you their next meal? Find out if the King’s men were successful in catching the real Bean or not. This show is really cool because it has lots of special effects that are controlled by the actors to time their performance.
You're a 19th-century medical student and watch an autopsy in Dr Knox’s Anatomy Theatre, of one of Burke & Hare's victims, the most notorious serial killers in Edinburgh! You'll learn how they killed their victims, what Dr Knox used his leeches for, and how much a dead body costs. This show is a Scottish version of Dungeon Show – Plague. Oh, and you can see Burke’s skeleton on display at the Edinburgh Anatomical Museum.
It's 1828, and Edinburgh is the place to be for medical students who want to watch real dissections. But there's a problem - not enough bodies! So, William Burke and William Hare decide to start a business — of murder! And they're out there, looking for their next victim. If you get caught, you might become their next donation for just 7 pounds 10 shillings! You’ll also learn what “burking” actually involves.
Watch out for people yelling Garde Loo! That means Watch out for the pee! (Don't worry, the Dungeon doesn't use real pee.) Meet the Foul Clenger who cleans up after people with the plague. You'll learn how to spot the signs of the plague (including buboes in your pits), and you might get locked away if you have a cough! You'll find out what life was like in an Edinburgh close during the plague and what it takes to get out of quarantine.
Welcome to Old Craig House, where ghosts are said to roam! You'll hear a spooky story about Elizabeth Elphinstone, also known as The Green Lady, and her tale of love, loss, betrayal, and death,. She's believed to haunt the place where she was murdered after a betrayal. You'll learn about her love story, her tragic death, and if her ghost is still at Old Craig House today.
You've made it to the Grassmarket, and it's time to pay the price for your crimes! A crowd has gathered to watch you get hanged. Get ready for a thrilling drop that will mark the end of your Dungeon journey! You'll learn what it feels like to freefall at the gallows and how quickly you might die. But don't worry, if you're not feeling brave, you can skip the drop ride!
Note: The Drop Dead ride is temporarily closed for maintenance.
You've got to get out of here, fast! The streets aren't safe, and you'll see some familiar faces you might want to avoid. Your only escape is through the Mirror Maze, the first of its kind in Edinburgh. It's like a never-ending maze, and you'll feel like you're going in a circle (because you are!) Just stay away from the screams and watch out for yourself. You might even find out if you're a vampire and where the drummer boy vanishes to!
